Picking the Right Wine (that Pops!)

Wow, its New Year's Eve already and those of us who love wine come back to the annual question:

What bubbly shall we bring to this years New Year's Eve Party?

Well, I always think the wine has to fit the situation. So whats the situation? People, Place, and Timing. Sooooo...

Wine, R&R, and Architecture

What does wine have to do with architecture? Well, as I have come to find out over my life is that architects sure drink wine, and some drink wine while waiting for the glue to dry on the models they are building (notice Ted that I did not point you out here or mention the word "work").

D&C 3.0 Theme: Recession&Recovery

What a year!

Since last years Dorks & Corks event, we've been through a financial meltdown, some/most of us have been through some sort of work decrease, and all of us have been forced to think of money in a new light. Now that we've endured a year, I figure its about time for a little R&R!

So, I believe we've come up with a theme that we can all relate to: Recession&Recovery AKA R&R

So here's the challenge:

Lunch on Lone Tree Hill, and Wines Worth Discovering

The art of entertaining has many forms, but few do it better than my old high school teacher Ms. Doyle. As a 14 year old kid fresh off the plane in Antofagasta, Chile, she welcomed me into her home and treated me as part of her own family in an attempt to make my transition to the new world that much easier. Whether it was a nice home cooked dinner, a trip into the desert or beach, or slapping my wrist to make me study more at school, I could always count on Ms. Doyle to keep me on the right track

Prosecco's Parisian Arrival

Since 2004, prosecco and I have shared a relationship unlike any other wine in my cellar. From our first meeting in that cafe in Paderno to the business I founded importing it to the US, prosecco remains my favorite wine despite its somewhat obscure position stateside. Perhaps its the challenge of finding a good bottle that I haven't tried, or maybe its simply the smile that comes from a drinkers first sip, there is just something that does it for me.

Enter Paris.

Pacific NW - A Day in Prosser

Having been to Rattlesnake Hills and the upper Yakima valley, I wasn't expecting much different when I arrived in the tiny town of Prosser, located about 25 miles past my normal wine stomping grounds. Boy was I in for a surprise.

Wanted: Wine Chooser

The latest issue of Wine Spectator had an interesting article on women's wine-drinking habits that got me thinking.

What makes a good wine bottle chooser, and how do I apply?

Forget collector, forget drinker, I'm talking about choosing a wine off the shelf, no cheating by tasting it, just blind luck. And no reading. No Wine Advocate, no Wine Spectator, its your inner wine intuition.

Happy 4th of July and Canada Day!

Hey everyone, a quick note that this weeks blog post will be postponed due to the holidays. Hope everyone has a chance to open a great bottle of wine (preferably Washington or British Columbia) this weekend and share it with others. Ciao!

Buying Wine Local

I've always been a big fan of buying local, be it wine or shoes. There is just something about supporting those small businesses that are working hard everyday to win your business that appeals to the entrepeneur in me. While the big box stores seem to sell every wine known to man, I've found that I can find not only a friendly face at my local wine stores but also some interesting finds.
