Dorkiest Story:
One of my best friends, Brian, was living in Missoula Montana , going to grad school. I decided to visit him for a weekend. I flew in on a puddle jumper by Horizon Airlines and one of the great things about them is that they offer free beer and wine on all their flights. I think it is to keep your mind off of the shaking of the small plane….. But anyway… The point is that by the time I arrived in Missoula I was already sufficiently sloshed and the first stop after the airport was the liquor store and the second stop was Brian’s friend’s house. I had never met these people, and sadly because of what transpired that night; I barely remember some of them. My memory of the night is pretty choppy, but my most distinct memory (and everyone else’s too) is when I pulled out the dictionary sat on the floor in the middle of the room and proceeded to open it up to a random page, point to a word and yell out “the word of the day is…” Apparently people were not paying attention to me so I just kept doing this louder and louder. Eventually, poor Brian and to usher me home to save me from any further embarrassment. Apparently that is still many people in Missoula ’s best memory of me.
Corkiest Story:
It was mid September and my mom and her husband had booked a week at their time share on the Oregon coast. My sister and her boyfriend flew into Portland . I picked them up in my trusty silver Ford Probe and we set out for Newport . As is usually the case we hit traffic around Dundee . Conveniently Dundee is also home to a plethora of wineries. In fact as fate would have it as soon as the traffic hit we saw a sign for a winery. We decided that sounded much better than sitting in traffic so we pulled in and had some tasting. When we finished at that one, traffic did not look much better so we continued to another winery, then another, and then another… getting further and further from the main road to the coast. No, we did not get lost, and eventually I stopped drinking in order to be the responsible DD… but it was the best drive to the coast I’ve ever had. It was also a good thing we did not get pulled over because we ended up buying about 12 bottles of wine and when we got to the coast and my mom opened the car door she immediately smelled all the wine! Yes, we easily drank all 12 bottles that week.
