Portteus vineyards are on the gradual, south facing slopes of the Rattlesnakes Hills AVA, in the Yakima Valley, about 1200 feet above Zillah, WA.
The arid, high desert climate (6-8 inches of rain annually) coupled with a well-drained volcanic ash and clay loam soil conspire to create ideal growing conditions for a number of superior white and red varietals: Chardonnay, Viognier, Orange Muscat, Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Sangiovese, Zinfandel, Petit Syrah and Pinot Noir
The vineyard is well-water irrigated, adding sulfur, iron and silica into the growing environment.
